Romans 1:1-7     ‘Called’

At the beginning of his letter to there Romans Paul stresses this word ‘Called’.

“Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God” Romans 1:1

“Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake..” Romans 1:5

“And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.” Romans 1:6

“To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people:” Romans 1:7

Paul understands that he was called by God for a purpose, to be an apostle, to share the gospel with others. In verse 5 he expands on this, his apostleship meant that just as he had been called by God, it was his role to pass on this call to Gentiles.  In verse 6 the Gentiles who hear this message about Jesus need to realise that it is God who has called on them to belong to Jesus.  Those who respond to this call need to understand that this call includes there call not just to be forgiven members of God’s people but to become a holy people, those set apart to live for the reputation and glory of their Lord and Saviour.
