“Muslims must put Islam first”
Dr Mohammed Akher, a GP who is the frontrunner to lead the Muslim Council of England has said that Muslim children should be primarily identify themselves with Islam over their nation. He said he was part of a movement that was ‘trying to unite the Muslim world politically’. He went further, ‘Make your children realise that they are heirs to an ancient and proud nation so they can hold their heads high.’ The nation he refers to is the community of Muslims. He fears that, by compromising with western values Islam will be weakened,
‘We are opening the door to disappearing within the dominant culture., to a future in which our children may have Muslim names, but are otherwise indistinguishable from non-Muslims in their habits, customs and appearances.” (Daily Telegraph 6th Jan 2025).
What do you make of that? There is much reality in this, serving God must be the priority of us all and must be what we teach our children. But Muhammed is not God and Jesus is. Jesus fulfils the 330 prophecies about the Messiah in the Jewish Scriptures, Muhammad doesn’t. Jesus rose from the dead and convinced his disciples that he was indeed God in the flesh. Muhammad was just a man. What a disaster it is when followers of false religions such as Islam, Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons show more zeal than us who follow the one true God.
There is now much evidence to show that Islam began as a monotheist movement based on a belief that Christ was God’s prophet but was not God. The earliest inscription about this movement is found in the Dome of the Rock that was written in 691AD, nearly 60 years after the death of Muhammad. These inscriptions are largely about Jesus, the messenger of God, but his deity is denied. Much of the new evidence for this conclusion, reached by many scholars, has been summarised in my book, ‘The Origins of Islam’.
